Position Vacant: Director of Senior Choir, Mount Merrion Parish
Applications are invited for the position of Choir Director for the Senior Choir in Mount Merrion (Catholic) Parish. This is an adult choir of mixed ages, singing a wide repertoire of traditional and modern SATB music. This choir sings at the 10am Sunday Mass from September to early June and on other feast days and special occasions. A warm-up takes place at 9.15am before Mass and rehearsals are held after Mass, up to 12.15pm. Occasionally (such as at Christmas and Easter) the choir sings in liturgies at other times.
Applicants should have the following qualities and abilities:-
A relevant qualification in music
An understanding and appreciation of liturgy, the liturgical cycle and liturgical music
Previous experience of conducting choral music with SATB
Ability to read music
Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support volunteer choristers of mixed ability and to involve congregations
Ability to work as a collaborative member of a team within the parish structure
Teaching skills and willingness to spend time at rehearsals teaching music to the members
Knowledge and ability to source suitable music
Readiness to attend occasional meetings in the parish on liturgy and related topics
Readiness to attend occasional diocesan meetings and music workshops
Commitment to confidentiality
Availability for Masses, rehearsals and occasional meetings and for planning and preparation of music
Other desirable qualities and abilities:
Ability to arrange music
Ability to use Sibelius or other musical software on computer
PowerPoint and Word skills
Play a musical instrument
Contract:- There will be a one-year contract (renewable) with a probationary period of the first three months
